Train a Recraft image style
Last updated: October 15, 2026
Train a Recraft style from a few of your icons or illustrations, then generate new ones on Recraft that match the set.
A Recraft image style is a finetune that lives with Recraft: Layer sends the reference set's images to Recraft, which builds a style from them, and every Recraft generation that uses the set follows it. It needs only a handful of references, trains no weights file and has no training settings beyond how closely to match. That makes it a fast way to hold an icon set, a UI kit or an illustration style consistent, especially when you need vector output.
Before you start
- You need a role that can train styles. Ask a workspace admin if you don't see Create finetune.
- Training spends Creative Units. The price shows on the train button before you start; see Creative Units.
- Put the references in a reference set first (Create a reference set). Only its images count, and Recraft takes a limited number: past the limit the form tells you how many references it will use, and the rest are left out. Trainable models lists the Recraft models and their limits.
Steps
-
Open the reference set that holds your icons or illustrations.
-
Under Finetunes, select Create finetune in the Image section, then select Customize.
-
Under Base model, open Select a model and pick a Recraft model. Pick a Vector model when you want SVG output, such as icons and logos, and a raster one for illustrations. The form switches to the style settings and the button reads Train style.
-
Under Match, choose how closely generations follow your references: Precise follows them closely; Flexible keeps their feel but strays further for prompts they don't cover.
-
To make one reference count for more of the style, raise the weight under its image in the grid (type a value or drag the slider). Leave the weights even to count every reference equally; Reset to even weights puts them back.
-
Select Train style. The style trains in the background and the model's row in the Image section shows Training.
Result
The style joins the reference set as a row under Finetunes, on the Recraft model you picked, and you get a notification when it's ready. Generate with it by adding the reference set to a Recraft generation on that model, as in Generate with a trained reference set. The style stays on Recraft: there are no weights to download, and it applies only on the model it was trained on.
Production tips
- Train the model you'll generate on. A style binds to one Recraft model. If the team uses both a vector and a raster model, or both the standard and Pro tiers, train a style on each.
- Pick references that agree. Same line weight, palette, perspective and level of detail. A style averages its references, so one odd image pulls every result toward it.
- Vary the subjects, not the treatment. A potion, a shield, a key and a pouch in one style teach the style; four potions teach potions.
- Weight your hero assets. If one icon is the art director's reference for the set, raise its weight instead of adding near-copies of it.
- Start on Precise for icon sets. Icons need to read as one family. Switch to Flexible and retrain when the style should stretch to subjects the references don't show.
- Need more control? When a few references aren't enough to hold a look, train a LoRA instead; see Train a style finetune.
If something goes wrong
- Train style is greyed out with "Add at least one reference image to train from". The set has no images. Add some to the reference grid.
- The form says only the first references are used. The set holds more images than Recraft accepts. Remove the weaker ones so the ones you want are the ones it keeps.
- Train style is greyed out with "Couldn't check the training cost. Try again." The price didn't load. Reload the page and try again.
- Results ignore the style. Check that you generated on the same Recraft model the style was trained on. See Results don't follow your reference set.
