Updated this week

The Import Image and Set Background Color tools allow you to bring external assets into your Canvas session and customize their background for clean compositions or creative edits. Whether you're working with transparent assets or modifying existing ones, these tools give you more control over how your image is presented and used.

Learn how to bring assets into Canvas and customize backgrounds to support your creative process and build clean, flexible compositions.

Import Image

Use the Import Image tool to bring external assets into your 2D Canvas session.

  1. Click Import Image from the toolbar.

  2. Select a file from your drive.

  3. The asset will be added directly to your canvas as a new layer.

Once imported, you can:

  • Use other tools like Lasso, Brush, or Mask Selection to modify the asset.

  • Combine it with background layers or new elements to build compositions.

Set Background Color

After importing an image, you can either:

  • Remove the background of an existing asset and apply a solid color, or

  • Add a background to a transparent image.

  1. Once your asset is placed on the canvas, access the background color settings.

  2. Choose your desired background color using the color picker.

  1. The background will fill the area behind your asset, making it ready for presentation or editing.

This is especially helpful when:

  • You want to create a consistent canvas environment for multiple assets.

  • You're prepping assets for visual previews or further design work.

  • You need to isolate elements or add a base color behind transparent assets.

Best Practices

  • Use background color fills to stabilize lighting and contrast in your compositions.

  • Make sure your asset’s transparency is preserved before adding a background, if your goal is to layer elements cleanly.

  • Use this setup to stage assets before enhancing or refining them with AI tools.
