What Is Your Future Roadmap?

What are we planning?

Updated over a month ago

At Layer, we're always thinking about the artist first. Our mission is clear: to empower game studios with tools that serve every need, from concept to completion. We started by focusing on the 2D and mobile space, and through close collaboration with game studios, we’ve positioned ourselves as a leader in our category.

But we're not stopping here. Our roadmap includes ambitious expansion into 3D, AAA, and beyond—all with the same artist-first approach that’s become our signature. As we continue to grow, we’re laser-focused on creating solutions that put creativity, control, and collaboration into the hands of artists.

What’s your future roadmap?

The next steps for us in 2D are Live Drawing experience, Vector generations, Spine and Sprite exports, and Color Guided generations.

In parallel, we're working on our 3D and animation offerings to help game artists easily generate 3D models and animate their generated characters. Additionally we have plans to expand our offering into video to support marketing use cases. Here are what we plan to support in the next 24 months.

Generation (2D)

Expand our already leading 2D tools to cover every professional usecase imaginable. (Yes, even whatever you're thinking!)

  • Enhanced creation features like Live drawing, vector generation, and more.

  • Color-guided generations that offer greater control over asset creation.

Generation (3D)

Simplify the 3D process without sacrificing quality, keeping artists focused on what they do best: creating.

  • Ability to create high-quality 3D models based on prompts and references.

  • Generate complex models with ease, then (eventually) animate creations within the same toolset.

API (Unity)

Continuation of our partnership with Unity Muse - more robust integrations that make working between Layer and Unity easy and seamless.

  • API support that will allow deeper integration into game development pipelines.

  • Artists will be able to plug Layer into existing workflows, enabling more powerful and flexible content generation within their favorite tools.

Animation

Bringing characters to life is a crucial step in game development, and we’re expanding our capabilities to support this.

  • 2D Spine and sprite exports

  • In-flow ability to animate 2D sprites with text

  • Simple animations for 3D models within Layer, before export into game engine.

Video

Video generation tools to support marketing and promotional needs, helping studios showcase their games with eye-catching video content

  • Simple video focused on user acquisition and marketing assets (video ads, app store assets, etc)

  • Use of animation 3D/2D assets in video content on Layer.

Asset Management & Collaboration

Collaboration is key in game development, and we’re enhancing our asset management tools to foster better team workflows.

  • Artists will be able to organize, share, and collaborate on assets in real-time.

  • Truly "live" workspaces that allow artists to generate assets and edit together while presenting or on a call.

Enterprise & Administration

Features are designed to scale with the needs of AAA studios and beyond.

  • Enterprise-grade administration tools that offer control over workflows, allowing for integration of 3rd party tools and game engines.

  • Large-scale asset management familiar to studios with 100s or 1000s of developers and artists.

Q3, 2025

Audio

In addition to visual content, we believe that sound is a critical element of immersive game experiences.

  • Seamless tools for generating soundscapes and character voices, all within the same artist-first ecosystem.
