Forge Explorer

Forge Explorer is your team’s creative launchpad inside Layer. It’s a visual gallery of the best generations—2D, 3D, and Video—designed to help you find inspiration and recreate strong assets quickly and consistently.

Whether you’re crafting static assets, animated sequences, or stylized 3D content, Forge Explorer gives you a curated collection of favorited forges and posts from the style gallery, all directly connected to the styles you’re working with.

What is Forge Explorer?

Forge Explorer is like a dynamic idea board—built to surface proven, high-quality generations from your past work or your team’s best examples. With just a click, you can view an asset (2D, 3D, or video), instantly recreate it, and adjust the prompt to get something new, yet consistent.

You can use Forge Explorer to:

  • Reuse a solid prompt and settings as a starting point

  • Explore great ideas from your team or other styles

  • Quickly spark inspiration when starting from scratch

How to Access Forge Explorer

You’ll find Forge Explorer by clicking the “Ideas” button in the top-right corner of the Forge panel.

Once open, you’ll see three main tabs:

Favorites – Your personal favorite generations

Workspace Favorites – Generations favorited by your team

Style Gallery – A shared gallery of great assets posted by you or your team, tied to specific styles

Forge Explorer works across 2D, 3D, and Video generations. It automatically shows the relevant favorites and gallery posts for the type of generation you’re working on:

  • If you’re forging a 2D image, you’ll see relevant 2D assets

  • If you’re forging a 3D object, you’ll see 3D favorites and gallery examples

  • If you’re generating video, you’ll see video-based favorites and style gallery posts

You can also toggle to:

  • View favorites for the currently selected style only

  • Or, explore all favorited assets across styles

How It Works

Each item in Forge Explorer includes:

  • A visual preview of the generation (still or video)

  • The prompt used

  • The style it was generated with

  • The ability to reforge or regenerate with all settings prefilled

When you select an item:

  • The prompt, style, aspect ratio, and any settings are automatically populated in the Forge panel

  • You can immediately edit the prompt or use features like Prompt Genie to tweak and improve it

Understanding Style Visibility and Sharing

When browsing or posting to the Style Gallery in Forge Explorer, it’s important to know how style visibility works:

  • Workspace-created styles: These are private to your workspace. If you post to the Style Gallery while using one of your own custom styles, the post will only be visible to you and your team. No other users or workspaces can see these gallery posts.

  • Layer-provided styles: This includes exploration styles, base models, and default gaming styles available to all users (unless your workspace admin has restricted access). When you post to the Style Gallery using one of these styles, your post becomes visible to all Layer users who have access to that style. Likewise, when browsing the gallery for these styles, you’ll see posts from any user who has shared to that gallery.

This distinction allows you to build private, style-specific libraries for your projects while also exploring inspiration from the broader Layer community when using global styles.

Best Practices: Favoriting and Posting to the Style Gallery

To truly get the most value out of Forge Explorer, make a habit of favoriting strong generations and posting to the Style Gallery when something stands out.

  • Favorite it for yourself: If a generation is successful and worth coming back to—whether image, 3D object, or video—favorite it to make it instantly accessible.

  • Post to the Style Gallery for your team: If you’re using a workspace-created style, your gallery posts will be private to your team.

  • Think of it as building a library: The more you and your team contribute, the more Forge Explorer becomes a reliable and curated visual reference system tailored to your specific project or style.

This tool is only as valuable as the content it contains. Regularly favoriting and posting makes Forge Explorer a living, evolving source of inspiration for your entire team

Why It Matters

Forge Explorer helps teams move faster and stay on style—across 2D, 3D, and Video generation workflows. Instead of starting from a blank box, you’re starting from proven examples—making it easier to explore ideas, generate consistently high-quality assets, and collaborate around a shared visual language.

To unlock its full potential, treat Forge Explorer as both a tool for reuse and a place to contribute. Every great generation you favorite or post adds value not just for yourself, but for your whole team—and potentially for the wider Layer ecosystem when using shared styles.
