What is a Workspace?
Layer is built around workspaces.
Every user starts with a personal workspace.
Every user can create a team based workspace.
Once you have an active subscription, you can add as many members as you want to a workspace.
Note: Workspaces help teams organize work, manage users, and collaborate using sessions and Layer Drive.
Can Users Belong to Multiple Workspaces?
Yes!
Users can be invited to multiple workspaces.
Switch between them using the profile picture menu in the top-left corner of the app.
Navigate via File Browser > All Workspaces.
Adding & Managing Workspace Members
Go to: Settings > Members > Add Member
Add individuals or batch invite. You can paste emails directly into the invite box.
Remove, Reassign or Reactivate Members
Remove users directly from β Settings > Members> Suspend. Two important points:
Suspending a user means they are no longer allowed in the account. This way you are able to keep a record of the previously invited members.
To manage multiple users at once:
β Select users in the table β Click Bulk Actions > Change WorkspaceYou can:
Reassign members to other workspaces.
Reactivate suspended users.
Roles & Permissions
Understanding Roles
Assign roles during member invites or through Member Settings.
These roles control access to features and content within the workspace:
Role | Permissions |
Artist | Generate images using any style, upload files |
Editor | All Artist permissions + manage folders & styles |
Art Director | All Editor permissions + view generation history |
Admin | Full workspace access incl. history, billing, team, folders, styles |
Billing Admin (view-only) | Manage billing and team, but cannot generate assets (no charge) |
Tip: Assigning proper roles helps minimize confusion around access.

Bottom of the app β Create Team Workspace
Assign People to Roles
Assign users to roles to delegate permissions and responsibilities.
Assigning a person to a workspace does not affect their existing subscriptions or personal workspaces.
Switch Workspaces
From the top-left profile menu or File Browser > All Workspaces
Leaving / Deleting a Workspace
Members can leave workspaces.
Workspace admins can delete or rename a workspace, or update icon/color/description.
Workspace Notices (Enterprise Only)
Large organizations who prefer to operate with specific guidelines around AI can leverage this feature to keep their teams informed and reminded using this feature.
Enable via: Settings > Notices > + Add Notice
Set custom messages with frequency: Once, Daily, Weekly, Each Login
Tag notices as Draft or Live
Useful for sharing internal AI policies or company alerts.
