Edit an image with a prompt

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Change an image you already have by describing the change: a reskin, a new outfit, a seasonal variant. Layer edits the image in place and keeps the original, so you can compare the two and ship either.

Before you start

  • The image is in a session, or in your library ready to add to one.

  • Each edit costs Creative Units. The cost depends on the model you choose.

Steps

  1. In the session, press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) and choose Add asset….

  2. Select the image you want to edit, then click Select 1 asset. It lands on the board.

  3. Hover the image on the board and click View to open it full-size. The viewer shows the file's details on the left and the Actions panel on the right.

  4. In the box under the image (Describe the change you want), describe the change. Say what should change and what must stay, for example: Reskin her for the winter event: deep red parka, white fur trim, a knitted scarf.

  5. Click Edit image, the arrow button at the right end of the box.

  6. Wait while the edit runs. The viewer stays open, and the new version appears beside the original.

Result

The edited image opens in the viewer as a new file. The original is unchanged: both sit in the strip on the left of the viewer, newest first, so you can switch between them. The new file is also added to the session's board.

Production tips

  • Name what must not change. Pose, silhouette, framing, transparent background, art style: say so in the prompt. A short list of what to keep holds the result closer to the shipped asset than a long description of the change.

  • Give exact colors as hex values (#C8102E for the parka) when the result has to match a palette or brand guide.

  • Changing one area only? Use Inpaint image in the Actions panel on the right and paint over the area instead, so nothing outside it moves.

  • Iterate from the best version. Each edit starts from the image on screen. Pick the closest result in the strip, then refine it with a smaller follow-up prompt rather than rewriting the first one.

  • Doing this across a set? Run the same prompt on each asset so the variants stay consistent, or build it into a workflow that runs the edit on every asset at once.

  • Need it larger for the build? Follow the edit with Upscale image on the result.

  • Try another model from the model menu next to the prompt when one keeps changing too much. Models differ in how literally they follow edit instructions.

If something goes wrong

  • The result changed more than you asked for. Add what must stay the same to the prompt, or try another model from the model menu.

  • The transparent background is gone. Run Remove image background on the result.

  • The edit failed. The new version shows the failure in the strip. Try again; if it fails again, change the prompt or the model.

  • You are out of Creative Units. The edit will not start. Top up from your workspace's billing settings, or ask a workspace admin.
