Answer a request for a higher usage limit

Last updated: October 26, 2026

Approve or decline a member's request for a higher Creative Unit limit, from the Usage Limits page.

Before you start

  • You need Manage billing and Manage workspace settings, which the Admin role has.

  • When a member asks, admins get a Usage limit request notification in their inbox, by email and in Slack if they connected it. It opens the request on the Usage Limits page.

Steps

  1. Open Settings and select Usage Limits under Billing. Requests for more lists each waiting request: who asks, from how much to how much, which limit it comes from, and their reason.

  2. Select Approve. New limit starts on the amount they asked for; change it to grant a different amount.

  3. Select Raise limit.

Result

Layer confirms the member's new limit, and the request moves to Recently answered as Approved. The member now has their own limit of that amount for the request's period, which replaces their group limits of that period, and their row shows Own limit. They are notified that their limit was raised.

Decline a request

Select Decline on the request, write in Note to and their name if you want to say why, and select Decline request. Their limit stays as it is, they are told you declined along with your note, and the request moves to Recently answered as Declined.

Production tips

  • Grant what the work needs, not what was asked. Change New limit before you raise it: a smaller raise that gets them to the milestone keeps the team's budget intact.

  • An approved raise stays. The own limit it creates does not end with the period. When the crunch is over, remove it from the member's row menu on the same page, and they return to their group's limit.

  • Several requests from one team mean the group's limit is too low. Raise it on the group instead of approving each person. See Set a usage limit for a group.

  • Say why when you decline. A note such as when the budget resets saves a second request.

If something goes wrong

  • This request was already approved, denied or cancelled. Another admin answered it, or the member withdrew it. Reload the page to see where it stands.

  • Enter a positive number. New limit must be more than zero.

  • Failed to approve the request. Reload the page and try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
