Set a usage limit for a group

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Create a group for a team and set how many Creative Units each of its members may spend per day, week or month, so you can budget a team's usage and see who goes over it.

Before you start

  • Groups are part of the Enterprise plan. On other plans, Groups & Roles shows Upgrade to Enterprise instead; contact sales to enable it.
  • You need a role that can manage workspace settings, such as Admin.
  • Decide the cap from your own usage: see what each team has spent before you set a number.

Steps

  1. Open the workspace menu, choose Workspace Settings, then select Groups & Roles under Team. All Groups lists your existing groups with their role, usage limit and member count.

  2. Click Create Group and enter a Group name for the team, for example the team or project it covers.

  3. Click Create group. The group's page opens.

  4. Under Usage Limit, click Set Usage Limit. Enter the cap in CU limit and pick a Period: Daily, Weekly or Monthly (the default).

  5. Click Set usage limit.

Result

Layer confirms with Usage limit updated. The group's page shows the cap with its period (for example 1000 CU / Monthly), and the same figure appears in the group's row on Groups & Roles. The limit applies to each member of the group, counted over the period in UTC. Use the edit and remove buttons next to it to change or lift the cap.

Production tips

  • Add the members next. A new group has no members. Use Add a member on the group's page to search by name or email.
  • Give the group a role. A new group starts on No role, which grants no access but can still carry a limit. Pick a role under Workspace role if you also want the group to decide what its members can do.
  • Match the period to how the team works. A daily limit surfaces a heavy batch run the same day; a monthly limit suits steady production that tracks your billing cycle.
  • Split teams by budget, not only by discipline. Separate groups for a live-ops event team and a concept team let you raise one cap for a crunch without raising the other.
  • Watch overages. When members go over the cap, the group's page lists them under Overages with how far over they are. Members see their own usage against each limit in their personal settings under Usage Limits.
  • Groups from your identity provider arrive in this list on their own. Set a limit on them the same way.

If something goes wrong

  • The page shows Upgrade to Enterprise. Groups are not on your plan. Contact sales to enable them.
  • Set usage limit stays greyed out. CU limit must be a number of zero or more.
  • A member shows under Overages. They have spent more than the limit in the current period. Raise the limit, change the period, or talk to them about their usage; if they belong to several groups with limits, each one is measured separately.
  • Failed to set usage limit. Reload the page and try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
