You can't sign in or can't see your workspace
Last updated: October 11, 2026
You can't get into Layer, a sign-in or invite email never arrived, or you are signed in but your team's workspace is missing. Find what you see below.
Most likely causes
The login code email never arrived
Continue with Email sends a 6-digit code rather than a link, with the subject "Your Layer login code". The code expires after 5 minutes.
Check your spam or junk folder, then click Resend code on the code screen.
If your company filters email, ask IT to allow mail from layer.ai addresses. A corporate filter that quarantines automated mail is the most common reason a whole team gets no codes.
"Invalid or expired code" means the code was mistyped or is more than 5 minutes old. Click Resend code and use the newest email.
If your workspace allows it, click Use password instead, or go back and use Continue with Google or Continue with SSO with the same email address.
Your invite email never arrived
You don't need the invite email to join. An admin's invite adds you to the workspace straight away, so the email ("You have been invited to Layer") is only a notice. Go to layer.ai and sign in with the exact address you were invited with; the workspace is there.
Invites don't expire, and admins can't resend one: inviting someone who is already a member fails. If you still can't see the workspace after signing in, see the next sections.
You're stuck on "Verify your email"
Only accounts created with an email and password have to verify their address. The verification email ("Verify your email address") has a Verify Email button, and the link expires after 1 hour.
Check your spam or junk folder, and make sure you signed up with the address you meant to.
If the link has expired or never came, click Back to log in and sign in with Continue with Email and a 6-digit code, or with Google, using the same email address. Those methods confirm the address themselves, so there is no link to wait for.
"This workspace doesn't allow signing in that way."
You see this on an Access denied page (tools that call Layer directly may show "Please log in through a method enabled for your workspace" instead). Your email domain belongs to a workspace whose admins have turned off the method you used, usually to require single sign-on.
Click Sign in with a different account.
On the login page, type your work email and click Continue with Email. Layer shows Choose how to sign in with only the methods your workspace allows.
Pick one of those, for example your company's SSO button.
Clicking Continue with Google or an icon button directly skips that check, which is how most people end up here. Admins choose the allowed methods under workspace settings; see Set up single sign-on.
You're signed in but can't see your team's workspace
You are in a different workspace. Click your workspace name at the bottom of the sidebar and pick your team's workspace under Workspaces. If you have several, click Show more. A personal workspace and a team workspace have separate Creative Units, models and files, so "out of Creative Units" or an empty library often means the wrong one is selected.
You signed in with a different email address. Layer matches you to invites by exact address. The same menu shows Signed in as with the address you are using. If it isn't the one you were invited with, Log out and sign in with the invited address, or ask an admin to invite the address you use.
You haven't been added yet. Ask a workspace admin to check the Members page; see Invite teammates and set roles.
Other "Access denied" messages
"This account is no longer active"
Every workspace you belonged to has suspended your membership, or your identity provider removed you. Ask your workspace admin to reactivate you.
"Your organization's workspace doesn't allow signing up directly. Ask one of its admins to invite you"
Your company has claimed your email domain and turned off self sign-up. Ask an admin to invite you, then sign in again. If your company uses SSO, sign in with Continue with SSO instead.
"Invites are turned off for this workspace"
Seen by admins. Members are managed by your identity provider through SCIM. Add the person in Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or your other provider instead.
"Authentication failed. Please try again."
The sign-in with Google, SSO or another provider didn't complete, often because the window was left open too long or a browser extension blocked it. Close other Layer tabs, try again, or try a private window. If SSO keeps failing for everyone, your admin should check the connection in your identity provider.
Still stuck?
Use the Contact support button on the Access denied page, or email support@layer.ai if you can't sign in at all. Once you are in, use Help & Resources > Talk To Us. Include the email address you are signing in with, the method you used (email code, Google, SSO), the exact message, and the Reference code if the page shows one. Contact support with the right details lists everything that helps.
