Manage what the agent remembers about you

Last updated: October 29, 2026

See what the Layer agent remembers about you in a workspace, check how it reads each memory, and forget or add memories.

How the agent remembers

When you tell the agent something lasting in a chat, such as "remember that I prefer pixel art" or "from now on, make these 16:9", it asks before saving it. What you approve becomes a memory, and the agent reads your memories at the start of every chat.

  • Memories belong to you and to one workspace. Your agent uses only your own memories, never a teammate's, even in a shared project. Switch workspace to see what the agent saved there.
  • A memory saved in a chat shows that chat and its project, but it applies to all your chats in the workspace.
  • Changes take effect from your next chat.

Steps

  1. Select your workspace name at the top of the sidebar, then select your name under Signed in as. Your account settings open.

  2. Select Memories under Account. Each memory shows when it was saved and the chat it came from, newest first. Use Search memories to find one.

  3. Select the arrow on a memory to see How the agent reads this: the facts and observations the agent drew from it.

  4. To forget a memory, select the bin icon on its row. Select the undo button in the message that appears if you change your mind.

  5. To add one yourself, select Add memory, write the preference, and select Add memory in the dialog.

Result

The list shows what the agent will use about you in this workspace from your next chat. A memory you add shows Added by you in place of a chat.

Production tips

  • Write a memory the way you would brief a new artist: one lasting preference, stated plainly, such as "Keep backgrounds simple so characters read at small sizes". Several short memories work better than one long one.
  • Keep project-specific rules out of your memories. A memory applies to every chat you have in the workspace; put a project's rules in a skill instead. See Skills.
  • When a preference changes, forget the old memory as well as adding the new one, so the agent is not left with two that disagree.
  • To tell the agent about yourself directly (your role, your game, how you like to work), edit Agent Context in the same settings. Forget all leaves your Agent Context and your chats as they are.
  • Asking the agent in chat to forget something points you here: forgetting happens on this page.

If something goes wrong

  • How the agent reads this says "Nothing yet". The memory is still being processed, which usually takes under a minute. Open it again shortly.
  • The agent still uses a memory I forgot. Forgetting takes effect from your next chat. Start a new chat.
  • A memory I expected is missing. Memories are kept per workspace: check the workspace at the top of the settings sidebar. The agent also saves a memory only after you approve it in the chat.
  • I want to start over. Select Forget all and confirm. This removes every memory the agent has of you in this workspace and cannot be undone.
