Work with the Layer agent
Last updated: October 11, 2026
Brief the Layer agent in your own words, attach the files the work is about, approve what it proposes, and get the results on a session board. Use it when a job takes more than one tool, or when you would rather describe the outcome than pick the settings.
Before you start
- Every run the agent starts spends Creative Units. It asks before it spends: see pricing for what things cost.
- The files you attach come from your library or your computer: images, video, audio, 3D models and playables.
Steps
-
On Home, start in the agent's composer at the top of the page, under The agent that knows games.
-
Select Add to prompt (the + in the composer), then Attach files or photos. Pick the files the brief is about from your library, or upload them, and select Select.
-
Describe what you need: the outcome, who it is for, and what must not change.
-
Send the brief. A session opens with your message in the chat panel, and the agent answers there. When something decides the result, it asks first, with a card of options to pick from.
-
Review the plan. Before a run, the agent shows an Approve generation card with the model, the number of outputs and the estimated cost. Select Approve to run it, or Cancel and tell the agent what to change.
-
The agent runs the tools it chose. Each output appears on the session board as soon as it starts, with its progress, while the chat says what is running.
-
Review the results on the board. Open one to see it full size, edit it, or keep talking to the agent in the same session to refine it.
Result
Everything the agent makes lands on the session's board and in your library, with the model and prompt that made it in its details. The conversation stays in the session, so you can come back to it later and carry on.
Production tips
- Say what must stay the same as plainly as what should change ("keep her outfit exactly as it is"). The agent picks an edit over a fresh generation when the brief asks it to preserve something.
- Attach the actual asset rather than describing it. A render, a sprite sheet or a frame from your build gives the agent far more to work from than a sentence.
- Add a reference set with Add to prompt then Add a reference set when the work has to match your studio's style or keep a character on-model across many outputs. See Create a reference set.
- Keep related work in one session. The agent sees what is already on the board, so "do the same for the other two characters" works without restating the brief.
- Expand the Thought for… line above a reply to see how the agent read your brief. It is the quickest way to spot a misunderstanding before you approve a run.
- When you know exactly which tool and settings you want, open the tool yourself from Home instead. See Create images.
If something goes wrong
- You can't type in the composer. The agent is waiting on a card. Answer it, or select Cancel on the card, and the composer opens again.
- The agent misread the brief. Cancel the card it proposed and reply with what is different. If a run already started, select Stop in the composer.
- A reply stopped partway. Select Retry on the message to send it again.
- The workspace is out of Creative Units. Layer offers to top up when a run can't start. Ask a workspace admin if you can't buy units yourself.
