Restyle an image

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Repaint an image in another look while keeping its composition: a render as watercolor, pixel art, ink or a painted storybook page, from a description or from a style reference.

Before you start

  • The image is in a session, or in your library ready to add to one.

  • Each restyle costs Creative Units. The cost depends on the model you choose.

Steps

  1. In the session, press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) and choose Add asset….

  2. Select the image, then click Select 1 asset. It lands on the board.

  3. Hover the image on the board and click View to open it full-size. The viewer shows the file's details on the left and the Actions panel on the right.

  4. Under Tools in the Actions panel, choose Restyle image. To describe the look in words, pick a model that shows a prompt box from the model menu at the top of the tool; then describe the look, for example: Hand-painted watercolor, soft washes and visible paper grain. To match an existing image instead, drop it on Style reference.

  5. Click Restyle.

  6. Wait while the image is repainted. The viewer stays open, and the new version appears beside the original.

Result

The restyled image opens in the viewer as a new file. The original is unchanged: both sit in the strip on the left of the viewer, newest first, so you can switch between them. The new file is also added to the session's board.

Production tips

  • Use your own art as the reference. To match a game's established look, drop a finished asset from the game on Style reference rather than describing the style; it carries palette, line and texture that are hard to put into words.

  • Name the medium and its marks. "Watercolor" alone is vague. Add what the medium does: soft washes, hard edges where paint dried, paper grain, white left unpainted.

  • Restyle a set with the same settings. Keep the same model, prompt and reference for every asset in a batch so they read as one family, or build the restyle into a workflow that runs it on each asset.

  • Mind small details. A strong restyle can soften logos, UI text and fine patterns. Restyle the art, then put crisp elements back on top in your editor.

  • Need a bigger file? Follow the restyle with Upscale image on the result.

If something goes wrong

  • There is no box to describe the look. The selected model restyles from a style reference only. Drop an image on Style reference, or pick another model from the model menu.

  • The pose or design changed too much. Say what must stay in the prompt (pose, outfit, framing), or try another model.

  • The edit failed. The new version shows the failure in the strip. Try again; if it fails again, change the prompt or the model.

  • You are out of Creative Units. The edit will not start. Top up from your workspace's billing settings, or ask a workspace admin.
