How to use Realtime live canvas

Layer's live concepting tool, giving you the ability to ideate and create concepts in real-time.

This support article applies to a previous version of Layer. If you're using the newest version of Layer, some features and navigation described here may look different.

The Realtime Canvas is built for rapid concepting - whether you're exploring ideas for characters, environments, or game items, it gives you a fast way to bring your thoughts to life.

Instead of typing out prompts and waiting for generations the Realtime Canvas lets you sketch, edit, and prompt in the same space - and see changes live. It's a more interactive way to concept quickly, especially during the early stages of creative development.

What you can do with Realtime

Sketch directly on the canvas: Use built-in tools to block out shapes, layouts, or characters. Realtime then transforms your sketch into a fully rendered image.

Use pre-built or custom styles: Choose from a library of ready-made art styles built for games, or bring your own custom-trained style into the canvas.

Adjust prompt and creativity live: Fine-tune the influence your prompt or style has on the output. This gives you flexibility while keeping generations on track. The canvas updates instantly, so you can try different ideas without starting over.

Track every version: All realtime edits and generations are automatically saved. Scroll back through versions to compare results or restore earlier concepts.

Send assets to forge: Once you're happy with your concept, you can save it directly into your session feed for further editing, upscaling, or 3D export.

Once you're done ideating, just download any generation to your Layer Drive for sharing, feedback, or use in production.
