Earn free Creative Units with rewards

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Claim the free Creative Units (CUs) your workspace earns as your team sets it up and uses it: a starter journey of setup steps with a bonus at the end, plus one-off tasks and ongoing goals that pay out as you go.

Before you start

  • Anyone in the workspace can open the rewards window and claim. The units go to the whole workspace, not to the person who claims them.

  • Rewards are earned by a workspace's own work. Enterprise workspaces and child workspaces do not earn them.

  • How many units each reward pays is shown next to it in the window. What units buy is on the pricing page.

Steps

  1. Look at the card above your workspace name at the bottom of the sidebar. It reads Earn free units, or tells you how many rewards are ready and how many units they add up to.

  2. Click the card to open the rewards window. Get started bonus shows the starter journey; Unlock more rewards lists one-off tasks and ongoing goals, each with its progress.

  3. Select Claim under a finished journey step. The milestone and its units fill the screen.

  4. Select Collect. The step is marked Claimed and the journey's progress moves on.

  5. Select Claim all to collect every other reward that is ready at once, or Claim on a single row.

Result

Claimed units go to the workspace balance, alongside your plan and any packs you bought, and everyone in the workspace can spend them. A one-off reward folds into the claimed list at the bottom of Unlock more rewards. An ongoing goal stays in the list and shows its next step, so it pays again as the team keeps working. The note at the bottom of the window says how long claimed units stay usable.

Production tips

  • Finish the starter journey first. Adding assets to a project, building three reference sets, creating ten assets and training a finetune are the steps a studio takes to get Layer production-ready anyway, and completing all of them unlocks the Get started bonus on top of each step's own units.

  • Use the shortcuts. A step or reward you have not finished links straight to where you do it (Generate assets, Train a model, Add assets). Hover a row in Unlock more rewards to see its link.

  • Spend earned units on exploration. Free units are a good budget for trying a model your team has not used yet, or for a first finetune on your own art, before you commit plan units to it.

  • Claim before a big run. Rewards wait until someone claims them. If the balance is getting low before a batch, open the window and claim what is ready.

  • Admins can switch them off. In Workspace Settings, Rewards has an Enable achievements switch for the whole workspace. Admins also see Turn off rewards at the bottom of the window, which goes there.

If something goes wrong

  • "Unlock claiming with your first purchase." Your workspace keeps everything it has earned, but can claim it only once it has bought units on Layer. Select Buy units, or see Manage your subscription and buy Creative Units.

  • There is no rewards card in the sidebar. The workspace has achievements switched off (ask an admin to check Rewards in Workspace Settings), it is an Enterprise or child workspace, or the person who created it has already earned their free units in another workspace.

  • A task you finished still shows progress. Only work that meets the reward's description counts: read the line under its title. Quick questions to the agent, very small generations and runs that fail do not count.

  • "Could not load your rewards." Nothing you earned is lost. Select Retry, or close the window and open it again.
