You can't sign in to a Layer plugin

Last updated: October 12, 2026

The Layer panel in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve or Figma, or the Layer add-on in Blender, will not sign you in, or signs you in to the wrong place. Find what you see below.

In Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and Figma, signing in works the same way. Click Sign in on Browser in the panel. Your browser opens Layer's sign-in page with a code already filled in, and the panel shows the same code under Confirm this code on the sign-in page:. Sign in in the browser, confirm the code, and the panel opens with Layer's tools.

Signing in from the panel

You're asked for a password you don't have

Your company signs in to Layer with single sign-on (Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace or another provider), and the browser page is offering a password field instead. You never need a separate password for the panel, and the page the panel opens has no single sign-on button of its own.

Fix: sign in to Layer in that same browser first, either from your company's app portal (for example your Okta tile) or at layer.ai with Continue with SSO. Then click Sign in on Browser in the panel again. The browser is already signed in, so it only asks you to confirm the code. If the page still asks for a password, sign out of Layer in the browser and repeat these steps.

The panel shows a code and you don't know where to enter it

You don't type it. The browser page opens with the code filled in; check that it matches the one in the panel and confirm. If the browser page did not open, or you closed it, click Reopen the sign-in page in the panel.

Couldn't start sign-in. Please try again.

The panel could not reach Layer or could not open your browser. Check your internet connection and click Sign in on Browser again. In After Effects, This panel cannot open a browser window. means After Effects blocked it; close and reopen the panel from Window > Extensions > Layer AI, and try again.

The panel goes back to Sign in on Browser

The code was not confirmed in time, the request was declined in the browser, or you signed in and then closed the page before confirming. The panel does not say which. Click Sign in on Browser again and confirm the new code straight away.

You were signed out after working for a while

Your sign-in expired or was revoked, for example after you signed out elsewhere or an admin changed your access. The panel returns to the sign-in screen; sign in again. A short network drop does not sign you out.

The panel doesn't load

Couldn't reach Layer

The panel opened but could not load Layer. Check your connection and click Retry. In Photoshop and Premiere Pro, Open in browser checks whether Layer loads in your browser at all. In After Effects and DaVinci Resolve the message ends by asking you to close and reopen the panel; do that once your connection is back. If Layer loads in your browser but never in the panel, your network may be blocking the host app; contact support.

Layer AI failed to start

Close and reopen the panel. If it keeps happening, restart Photoshop or Premiere Pro.

The panel isn't in the menu, or DaVinci Resolve didn't accept the plugin

The panel is not installed, not enabled, or your host app is older than the plugin supports. Restart the host app after installing; panels register only on launch. In DaVinci Resolve, check that the plugin is enabled under Workspace > Workflow Integrations, then reopen it. The install article for each host lists where the panel lives and how to check the minimum version:

Signed in, but not where you expected

Your team's workspace is missing

The panel shows the workspaces of the account you signed in with. If your team's is not there, you probably signed in with a different email address from the one you were invited with. Open the panel's Menu, check the email shown, choose Sign out and sign in with the invited address. See You can't sign in or can't see your workspace.

Couldn't load your workspaces or No workspaces yet

Couldn't load your workspaces. is a connection problem: click Retry. No workspaces yet means the account you signed in with has none: create one at layer.ai, or sign out and use the account your team invited.

You need to switch workspace or account

Open Menu in the panel. Pick another workspace under Workspaces, or choose Sign out to sign in as someone else.

Blender

The Blender add-on signs in from the Layer AI tab in the 3D viewport's sidebar (press N). Sign in opens your browser and returns to Blender when you finish; Sign in with a code shows a code you type into a browser on any device. See Install the Layer add-on in Blender.

Timed out waiting for the browser to complete sign-in.

The browser sign-in was not finished in time, or the browser could not hand it back to Blender. Click Sign in again and finish in the browser. If it times out again, use Sign in with a code instead.

Every port reserved for sign-in is in use

Another program on your computer is using the connection Blender listens on for the browser to return. Use Sign in with a code, which does not need it.

The sign-in code expired before it was used.

Codes are valid for a short time. Click Sign in with a code again and enter the new code promptly. Unlike the other panels, the Blender page does not fill the code in for you: type the code shown under Enter this code in your browser:.

Sign-in failed or Device sign-in failed

The sign-in was declined in the browser or did not complete. Click Cancel, then start again. If your company uses single sign-on, sign in to Layer in the browser first, as described above, and then start again.

Signed in with the LAYER_API_KEY in your environment.

An API key is set on this computer, and the add-on is using it instead of your account. Click Use my account instead to sign in as yourself.

Sign in to Layer in the sidebar to start.

A tool was run before you signed in, or before you chose a workspace (Pick a workspace in the Layer sidebar to start.). Finish both in the sidebar and run it again.

Still stuck?

Contact support from Help & Resources > Talk To Us in Layer, or email support@layer.ai if you cannot sign in anywhere. Include the host app and its version, your operating system, the email address you sign in with, whether your company uses single sign-on, and the message exactly as it appears. Contact support with the right details lists everything that helps.
