Install the Layer panel in Premiere Pro
Last updated: October 11, 2026
Install the Layer panel in Premiere Pro and sign in, so you can generate video, images and audio into the sequence you are cutting, and edit, reframe or upscale a clip without leaving the edit.
Before you start
- Premiere Pro on macOS or Windows, with the Creative Cloud desktop app signed in. The download page lists the minimum Premiere Pro version for the current build.
- A Layer account. The panel is free with every plan, including the free one; generations use your workspace's Creative Units, as they do in the browser.
- An internet connection. Generation runs on Layer, not on your machine.
Steps
Go to layer.ai/integrations/premiere-pro and click Download for Premiere Pro. You get one
.ccxfile for macOS and Windows.Double-click the
.ccx. The Creative Cloud desktop app installs the panel in a few seconds.Restart Premiere Pro, then open Window, UXP Plugins, Layer AI. Dock the panel wherever you keep your tools.
The first time it opens, the panel asks you to sign in. Click Sign in on Browser.
Your browser opens Layer's sign-in page, and the panel shows a code. Sign in with your Layer account and confirm that the code on the page matches the one in the panel.
Back in Premiere Pro, the panel opens with Layer's tools.
Result
The panel stays signed in between Premiere Pro sessions. Describe a shot, a plate or a sound and the result comes back ready to drop into the timeline; select a clip to change it with a prompt, reframe it or raise its resolution. Every generation is saved to a Layer session you can open in the browser.
Production tips
- Reframe for each placement. Cut the master in 16:9, then reframe the clips for 9:16 and 1:1 from the panel instead of re-cropping by hand.
- Generate the gaps. Hook frames, background plates and end cards are the pieces most UA cuts are short of. Generate them at the sequence's resolution so they drop in without scaling.
- Keep the creative with the cut. Choose the Layer project at the top of the panel before you start, so the generations for this edit sit together for the team.
If something goes wrong
- Layer AI is not under Window, UXP Plugins. Restart Premiere Pro; a panel registers only on launch. If it is still missing, check that your version meets the minimum on the download page and that the Creative Cloud desktop app is signed in, then double-click the
.ccxagain. - Couldn't start sign-in. Please try again. Check your internet connection and click Sign in on Browser again.
- You closed the sign-in page. Click Reopen the sign-in page in the panel.
- Your workspace is missing after you sign in. You signed in with a different account than the one invited to the workspace. See You can't sign in or can't see your workspace.
