Compose layered images in a workflow
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Add the Layered Composition node to place generated images into a fixed layout, such as an ad, a store banner or an icon frame, and get every variation as an image and a layered PSD.
Before you start
- Open the workflow on its canvas. Your changes are saved as a private draft until you publish; see Build and publish a workflow.
- Composition itself costs no Creative Units; only the generators that feed it do.
Steps
Click Utilities in the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas, type Layered Composition in Search nodes… and drag it onto the canvas.
Drag each image you want in the layout to the node's Images input, background first. Each becomes a layer (layer-1, layer-2), and the node shows a preview of the layout.
Select the node and click Edit composition in the toolbar above it. The editor opens with the Layers list on the left and the selected layer's settings on the right.
Select the background layer and set Content fit to Fit and crop, then set its size to the full canvas so it fills the frame.
Select the next layer, set its Size, and use the align buttons under Position to place it, for example on the left and at the bottom. Changes save as you make them.
Close the editor, select the node and click Run.
When it finishes, the composed image shows on the node.
Result
The composed images appear on the node and under Runs and outputs. Connect Layered Image for flattened images or Layered File (PSD) for files your designers can open with every layer intact.
Production tips
- Lay out once, fill many times. Each image connected to a layer is one variation, so four characters into one layer gives four finished banners.
- One layout per size. In the editor, open the resolution menu at the top left and choose Add resolution, which copies the layout to a new size; arrange each one separately, since changes do not carry across. Every resolution adds a full set of outputs.
- Choose how a layer fills its box. Select a layer and set Content fit: Fit and pad keeps the whole image, Fit and crop fills the box, Stretch ignores proportions and Place and crop keeps the image at its own size.
- Fixed art goes in as an upload. Use Upload media for logos and frames that never change; connect generators only to the layers that vary.
If something goes wrong
- The node makes nothing. A layout with no filled layers has no output. Connect an image to at least one layer.
- Layout name is not unique. Rename one of the resolutions in the editor.
- There are more outputs than expected. Images on different layers multiply, and every resolution repeats the set.
