Extract a frame from a video in a workflow
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Add the Extract Frame node to take a still from every video a workflow makes, to use as a thumbnail or as the first frame of the next shot.
Before you start
- Open the workflow on its canvas. Your changes are saved as a private draft until you publish; see Build and publish a workflow.
- Extracting frames costs no Creative Units.
Steps
Click Utilities in the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas and drag Extract Frame onto the canvas.
Drag from your clip's output to the node's Videos input.
Click Advanced on the node and set Frame Location to First, Middle, Last (the default) or Timestamp. For Timestamp, set Timestamp (seconds) too.
Select the node and click Run in the toolbar above it, which shows the cost. The node shows Running while it works.
When it finishes, the still shows on the node.
Result
One image per video appears on the node and under Runs and outputs. Connect Images onward, or pick it as a workflow output.
Production tips
- Chain shots. Set Frame Location to Last and connect the frame to the First Frame of a Generate Video, so the next clip continues from the end of this one.
- Make thumbnails. Use Middle, or Timestamp with the second you want, for a representative still.
- Let a model choose. To find a moment you can describe but not time, use Smart Extract Frame instead.
If something goes wrong
- The frame is from the wrong moment. Timestamp (seconds) is used only when Frame Location is Timestamp. A time past the end of the clip gives the last frame.
- No videos provided. Connect a video to the node's Videos input.
