Review your workspace's activity log

Last updated: October 11, 2026

See who did what in your workspace, and when: invitations, role changes, uploads, exports, training runs and published workflows. Use it to answer an audit question or trace a change back to the person who made it.

Before you start

  • You need a role that can open Workspace Settings, such as Admin. If you cannot see it in the workspace menu, ask a workspace admin.
  • Exporting events needs the separate Export events permission. The Admin role includes it; other roles only have it if an admin adds it under Groups & Roles.

Steps

  1. Click your workspace name at the bottom left of the sidebar, choose Workspace Settings, then select Events. The log lists every event newest first, with its date, the person who did it, a type badge and a description.

  2. Click an event to expand it. The details open under the row as JSON: everything the event recorded, such as the file name, the export format or the number of training images. Click the row again to collapse it.

  3. Select Filter events, open Select filter type and choose what to filter by: Created At, Users, Event Type, Event Name or Resource Type.

  4. Pick a value, for example User under Select type. The log narrows to matching events. Switch is to is not to exclude them instead.

Result

The log shows only the events that match every filter you set. Filters stack: select Add filter to combine, for example, one person with a date range. Remove a filter with the × at the end of its row. The filters are kept in the page address, so you can bookmark a view or send it to another admin.

Production tips

  • Know what the types cover. Event types are Asset, Style, Directory, File, User, Workspace, Blueprint and Usage. Workflow activity is recorded under Blueprint: a published workflow reads "published a blueprint". Trained models and reference sets appear under Style.
  • Trace a leaked or misused asset. Filter Event Name to Asset exported or Files zipped, then add Created At to the window you care about. Expand each event to see the file and format.
  • Review access changes. Filter Event Type to User to see invitations, role changes and suspensions in one list, for example before a quarterly access review.
  • Use Created At precisely. It offers is, before, after and between, so you can match a release window or a contractor's engagement dates.
  • Sort oldest first by clicking the Date column header, to read a sequence of changes in the order they happened.
  • Need the data outside Layer? Select Export at the top right of the page. It shows an API command for exporting your workspace's events over a date range; copy it with Copy command and replace the token placeholder with your own API token. Use this to feed a SIEM or keep your own records.

If something goes wrong

  • You cannot find Workspace Settings or Events. Your role does not include workspace settings. Ask a workspace admin to change your role.
  • There is no Export button. Your role does not include the Export events permission. Ask an admin to add it to your role in Groups & Roles, or to run the export for you.
  • "No events match the current filters." The filters exclude everything. Check for an is not you meant as is, widen the date range, or remove a filter with its ×.
  • A row shows an ID instead of a name. The person who did it is no longer a member of the workspace, so Layer cannot show their name. The event and its details are kept.
