Remove backgrounds in a workflow

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Add the Remove Background node to cut the subject out of every image a workflow makes, onto transparency, ready for compositing or the game engine.

Before you start

  • Open the workflow on its canvas. Your changes are saved as a private draft until you publish; see Build and publish a workflow.
  • There is no prompt. If you leave the model empty, the node uses our recommended model.

Steps

  1. Click Editors in the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas and drag Remove Background onto the canvas.

  2. Drag from your images' output to the node's Image input.

  3. Select the node and click Run in the toolbar above it, which shows the cost. The node shows Running while it works.

  4. When it finishes, the cutout shows on the node, on a checkerboard where it is transparent.

Result

Each image appears on the node with a transparent background, at its original size, and under Runs and outputs. Connect Image onward, or pick it as a workflow output.

Production tips

  • Generate on a plain background. Ask the generator before it for "isolated on a plain background"; the cutout edges come out cleaner.
  • Composite next. Feed the cutouts into Layered Composition to place them on key art or store backgrounds.
  • Batch sprites. Every image connected is one cutout, so a whole sprite set is cut out in one run.

If something goes wrong

  • Hair, glass or smoke edges look rough. Try another model on the node, or generate the source on a contrasting plain background.
  • The run fails to resolve a model. The model picked is no longer available. Clear it to use the recommended one.
