Delete your account or a workspace
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Delete a workspace your studio no longer needs, or your own Layer account, and know what happens to the data in each. Both wait out a grace period before anything is permanently deleted, so a mistake can be undone.
Before you start
- Deleting a workspace needs the Delete workspace permission, which the Admin role includes. Anyone can delete their own account.
- Deleting cancels the workspace's subscription at once, with no refund. See Cancellation and refunds if you only want to stop paying.
- Download anything you want to keep first. Once the grace period ends, the files cannot be recovered from the app.
Delete a workspace
-
Open the workspace menu in the sidebar, choose Settings, then General. Delete workspace is in the Danger Zone at the foot of the page.
-
Select Delete and read the confirmation. It says when the workspace will be permanently deleted. Select Delete workspace to confirm, or Cancel to keep it.
Restore a deleted workspace
-
In settings, open Profile under Account. The deletion emails link straight here.
-
Open the workspace menu at the top of the settings sidebar. Workspaces waiting to be deleted are listed under Scheduled for deletion.
-
Select Restore next to the workspace. It opens again for its members, with everything in it.
Delete your account
-
In settings, open Profile under Account and select Delete account in the Danger zone.
-
Read the confirmation, then select Delete account. You are signed out, and the account is scheduled for deletion.
-
To change your mind, sign in again before the deletion date and select Cancel deletion.
Result
A deleted workspace
The workspace closes right away, so nobody can open it, and its subscription is cancelled with no refund. Until the deletion date, any admin of the workspace can restore it. On that date the workspace is permanently deleted with all its data.
A deleted account
You are signed out and the account is scheduled for deletion. Workspaces where you are the only member are closed right away and their subscriptions cancelled, with no refund. You are removed from workspaces you share with other people; what you made there belongs to those workspaces and stays with them. On the deletion date Layer deletes your sign-in, your access tokens, your memberships and your personal data, and takes you off our email lists.
Production tips
- Hand over before you leave. If you are the only admin of a shared workspace, make someone else an admin before you delete your account, so the team keeps control of its members and billing. See Invite teammates and set their roles.
- Leaving is not deleting. To stop working in one workspace but keep your account, choose Leave workspace from the workspace menu in settings instead.
- Retire a project, not the workspace. To wind down one game or campaign, archive its project with Archive project on the project's page and keep the workspace, its reference sets and its workflows for the next one.
- Erasure requests. To ask for your personal data to be erased, or for a copy of it, email support@layer.ai. See How Layer handles your data.
If something goes wrong
- There is no General page or no Delete button. Your role cannot delete the workspace. Ask a workspace admin to delete it, or to give you a role with the Delete workspace permission.
- Restore is missing from the workspace menu. Only an admin of the deleted workspace can restore it, and only until its deletion date. If the date has passed, the workspace and its data are gone.
- You were signed out and cannot get back in. Your account is scheduled for deletion. Sign in and select Cancel deletion before the deletion date. If you cannot sign in, contact support.
