Account Deletion & GDPR Data Erasure

How to delete your Layer workspace, request full account and data deletion, and exercise your GDPR data erasure rights.

Updated this week

This article covers two related but distinct actions: deleting your workspace and its contents directly in the app, and requesting the permanent erasure of your personal account data. If you are based in the EU or UK and acting under GDPR, both options are available to you.

How to delete your workspace

Workspace deletion is a self-serve action that any workspace Admin can perform directly from the Layer app. It removes all content associated with that workspace, including generated assets, trained models, Layer Drive files, sessions, and usage history.

To delete your workspace:

1

Click your workspace name in the top-left corner of Layer.

2

Select Workspace Settings from the dropdown menu.

3

Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page.

4

Click Delete Workspace and confirm.

What gets deleted: All assets, trained styles and models, Layer Drive files, sessions, and workspace data are permanently removed. This action cannot be undone.

What is not deleted: Your personal Layer user account remains active after deleting a workspace. If you want your underlying account and personal data removed as well, you will need to submit a data erasure request as described below.

How to request full account and data deletion

If you want your personal Layer account and all associated data permanently erased from Layer's systems, including your user ID, email address, and any personal data held on file, you need to contact support directly. There is currently no self-serve option for full account-level deletion.

To submit a data erasure request, contact support at [email protected] or via the chat in the Layer app with the following information:

  • The email address associated with your Layer account.

  • A clear statement that you are requesting full deletion of your account and personal data.

  • If you are submitting under GDPR or another data protection regulation, you can state this in your message.

Before proceeding, the team will confirm with you that deleting your account will also remove all generations, workspace data, and any content associated with it. Once you confirm, the deletion is carried out and you will receive confirmation that your user ID and personal data have been permanently removed.

GDPR and data protection requests

Layer AI Inc. is a US-based company and complies with applicable data protection regulations including GDPR for users based in the EU and UK. If you are exercising your right to erasure under GDPR Article 17, your request will be treated accordingly.

You can also request the following under applicable data protection law by contacting support:

  • Right of access: A copy of the personal data Layer holds about you.

  • Right to erasure: Permanent deletion of your personal data from Layer's systems.

  • Right to object to marketing: Removal of your email address from all marketing and notification communications.

For marketing opt-out requests specifically, these are processed and confirmed directly by the team without requiring a full account deletion. If you only want to stop receiving emails and do not want your account removed, state this clearly in your request.

Layer's Privacy Policy is available at layer.ai/privacy for full details on how personal data is collected, stored, and processed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I delete my account from within the app without contacting support?

You can delete your workspace and all its content directly in app via Workspace Settings. However, full deletion of your personal user account and associated data currently requires contacting support at [email protected].

What data is deleted when I delete my workspace?

Deleting a workspace removes all assets, generated images and videos, trained models, Layer Drive files, sessions, and workspace settings. Your personal user account and login credentials remain unless you also request full account deletion.

Will I lose my generated assets if I request account deletion?

Yes. Requesting full account and data deletion removes all content associated with your account permanently. The support team will confirm this with you before carrying out the deletion so you have an opportunity to download anything you want to keep beforehand.

How long does it take to process a data erasure request?

Once you confirm you are happy to proceed, deletion is typically carried out promptly and you will receive confirmation by email. Under GDPR, Layer is required to respond to data subject requests within 30 days.

I just want to stop receiving emails from Layer. Do I need to delete my account?

No. If you only want to be removed from Layer's marketing and notification emails, contact support and request a marketing opt-out. Your account and data will remain intact. This is processed separately from a full account deletion request.

I deleted my workspace but my account still appears to be active. Is that correct?

Yes. Workspace deletion removes the workspace and its contents but your personal user account remains active. If you want your account fully removed, submit a data erasure request to [email protected].

Can I request deletion on behalf of someone else?

Deletion requests must come from the account holder directly, or from an authorised representative with appropriate authority. The team may ask for verification before processing a request submitted on behalf of another person.

To request account deletion or submit a GDPR data erasure request, contact support at [email protected] with your account email address and we will process your request.
