Plan a storyboard on the session board
Last updated: October 11, 2026
The session board is a free canvas: anything you generate or upload lands on it, and you can arrange it however you like. Laying shots out in order with a note under each turns it into a storyboard, so you can plan a trailer, an ad or a cutscene before you animate anything.
Before you start
- Open the session that holds your shots, on the Board view. Generate the keyframes there, or drag image files from your computer onto the board to upload them.
Steps
-
Look over the board. Every generation, upload and note in the session is a tile you can move.
-
Drag the shots into a row, left to right, in the order they will play.
-
Right-click an empty spot under the first shot and choose Add text. A note appears where you clicked.
-
Write what happens in the shot: the camera move, the action, any line of dialogue. Click the board when you are done.
-
Add a note under each of the other shots the same way. The storyboard now reads left to right.
Result
The shots and notes stay where you put them, saved with the session. Everyone with access to the session sees the same board.
Production tips
- The toolbar at the bottom of the board has the same additions as the right-click menu: Add text, Add group, Add video editor, Add asset, Add comment and more.
- Place a group with Add group and drag the shots and their notes into it, so the storyboard moves as one and you can keep alternate versions side by side.
- Select a note to change its colour or text size. A colour per act or per location makes a long board easier to scan.
- When the shots are approved, animate each one and cut them together with Add video editor. See Create a video.
- Ask for feedback in place: Add comment (or press C) pins a comment to the spot on the board you mean.
- Press F to fit the whole board in view, and S to turn snap to grid on or off while you line shots up.
If something goes wrong
- Right-clicking shows a menu of image tools instead of Add text. You clicked on a tile. Right-click an empty part of the board.
- The note will not take your typing. Double-click the note to start writing in it.
- Shots jump to slightly different positions when you let go. Snap to grid is on. Press S to turn it off.
- Some shots are off screen. Press F to fit everything in view.
