Research apps and competitors with Sensor Tower
Last updated: October 11, 2026
Connect your Sensor Tower account and ask the agent for hard market data on any app: downloads and revenue estimates, rankings, retention, audience, reviews and the ads competitors run. Use it to brief creative against what the market actually rewards.
Before you start
- You need a Sensor Tower subscription with API access. The data the agent can pull is what your Sensor Tower plan includes.
- A Layer admin connects it with your Sensor Tower API token. Once connected, anyone in the workspace who chats with the agent can use it.
Steps
In Sensor Tower, open your account settings and copy your token from API.
In Layer, open the workspace menu, choose Workspace Settings, then select Connectors under Integrations.
Under Creative intelligence, click Connect on Sensortower, paste the token into API token, and click Connect Sensortower.
Open a chat with the agent and ask about an app or a category, for example: "How many downloads and how much revenue did the top three match-3 games make last quarter, across iOS and Android?"
Result
The agent looks the apps up in Sensor Tower, pulls the figures you asked for and answers with them, aggregated across both stores where you asked for it. Revenue and downloads are Sensor Tower's estimates, not the publisher's own numbers.
What to ask
- "Which networks is this competitor advertising on, and show me the creatives they ran most this month."
- "Compare day-7 retention for these four titles."
- "What are players complaining about in the latest reviews for our game?"
- "Using the top competitor creatives, brief three new ad concepts for our game and generate key frames for each."
Production tips
- Name apps precisely. Give the store name and, if two apps share a name, the publisher. The agent confirms which app it found before pulling numbers.
- Pair market data with your own. With your ad accounts connected too, ask how your creatives compare with what competitors run.
- Save the research in the session. Ask the agent to summarize the findings before you start generating, so the brief and the assets sit in one place for the team.
If something goes wrong
- Sensortower didn't accept these credentials. Copy the token again from API in your Sensor Tower account settings. A token from an account without API access is refused.
- The agent cannot get a figure. Your Sensor Tower plan may not include that data, or the app is not tracked. Ask for a different metric or check the app in Sensor Tower.
- The wrong app came back. Restate the app with its publisher, or paste its store link.
