Work on a session board with your team
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Open a session at the same time as your teammates and see who is there and where each of them is pointing on the board, as it happens.
Before you start
- Your teammates are members of your workspace. A session has no separate invitation: everyone in the workspace who can open sessions can open it.
- Cursors show on the board view. Switch to Board at the top of the session if you are in the gallery.
Steps
-
Open the session from Sessions in the sidebar, or from a link a teammate sent. The avatars at the top right of the board show everyone who has the session open, you first.
-
Watch the board: each teammate's cursor moves over it in their own colour, with their name on it, so you can see what they are looking at.
-
Select the avatars to see who is here. The list names everyone in the session, and marks anyone who has been inactive for two minutes as idle.
-
To bring someone else in, select Copy session link in the same panel (it reads Link copied) and send it to them. Anyone in your workspace who opens it joins you on the board.
Result
Everyone in the session works on the same board. An asset one person generates, uploads or moves appears on everyone's board, and their cursors and avatars come and go as they open and close the session. Your own cursor shows on their screens the same way while it is over the board.
Production tips
- Point instead of describing. On a call, put your cursor on the shot you mean. Everyone sees it, with your name on it.
- Decide together. From the same avatar panel, Start a vote lets everyone stamp the assets they like; see Vote on the session board.
- Leave feedback for later. Not everyone will be there at once. Pin a comment on the asset and mention the person who should act on it; see Comment on assets and mention teammates.
- Share at the project level for ongoing work. A link brings someone to one board; adding them to the project gives them everything in it. See Share work with teammates.
- Large rooms. Past five people the avatars fold into a + count; the panel still lists everyone. Someone with the session open in several tabs counts once.
If something goes wrong
- There are no avatars at the top of the board. The live connection did not open. The session still works, but without presence. Reload the page; on a company network, ask IT whether WebSocket connections to layer.ai are allowed.
- A teammate's avatar is there but not their cursor. Their pointer is off the board: in another tab, in the gallery view, or over a panel. Cursors show only while they are over the board.
- A teammate cannot open the link. Check that they are in the same workspace and, for a session in a project, that they can open that project.
