Share work with teammates

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Share a project with the teammates who work on it, and send a link to a session or a file when you want someone to look at something specific.

Before you start

  • The people you share with need to be members of your workspace. If they are not yet, an admin invites them first: see Invite teammates and set their roles.
  • Adding people to a project needs permission to edit the project. Workspace admins can open every project.

Add teammates to a project

  1. Open the project from Projects, or pick it in the project switcher at the top of the sidebar.

  2. Select the gear beside the project's name in the sidebar to open Project settings. It is also in the project switcher's menu.

  3. Under Members, select Add members.

  4. Tick the teammates who should work in the project. Search by name or email, or paste a list of email addresses separated by commas to pick several people at once.

  5. Select Add (the button counts the people you picked, for example Add 2 teammates). They appear in the members list.

Result

The teammates you added see the project in their project switcher and on the Projects page as soon as they refresh. Inside it, they work with the same assets, sessions, reference sets and workflows you do.

Send a link

A link takes a teammate straight to what you want them to see. They open it signed in to Layer, in the same workspace.

A session

Select the arrow beside the session's name at the top of the board and choose Copy session link. The link opens the session in the view you are in.

A file

Right-click the file on the board or in the Asset Library and choose Copy link to file (⌘⇧C, or Ctrl+Shift+C on Windows). In the full-size viewer, select Copy link under Export. The link points at the file itself.

A comment

In a comment thread, open its Comment actions menu and choose Copy link. The link opens the session or file with that thread open. See Comment on assets and mention teammates.

Production tips

  • Share at the project level. Adding someone to a project once gives them everything filed in it, including work added later, so you do not have to send links one by one.
  • Mention people instead of messaging them. An @mention in a comment notifies the teammate in their inbox, with a link back to the work. It keeps the feedback next to the asset.
  • Send review sets to Miro or Slack. If your reviews happen outside Layer, export to a Miro board or post to Slack instead of pasting links. See Import from and export to a Miro board and Work with Layer in Slack.
  • Share the pipeline as well as its outputs. A published workflow can be run by everyone in your workspace, and made public for anyone on Layer. See Build and publish a workflow.
  • Remove access when a project ends. In Members, open a member's menu and choose Remove from project. Archiving the project keeps its roster and contents readable while stopping new work.

If something goes wrong

  • The teammate is not in the list when you add members. They are not a member of the workspace yet, or they are already in the project. Ask an admin to invite them to the workspace first.
  • There is no Add members button. You do not have permission to manage the project's members, or the project is archived. Ask a project admin or a workspace admin.
  • A teammate cannot open the link you sent. Check that they are in the same workspace and, for work inside a project, that they are a member of that project.
  • A teammate does not see the project yet. Ask them to refresh the page.
