Comment on assets and mention teammates

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Leave feedback where the work is: pin a comment on an asset on a session board, or on any file in the viewer, and @mention a teammate to notify them.

Before you start

  • Comments are visible to everyone who can open the session or the file. The people you mention must be members of your workspace.

Steps

  1. On the session board, select Add comment (the speech bubble on the toolbar at the bottom of the board) or press C, then click the asset you want to talk about. Click an empty part of the board instead to leave a comment that is not tied to an asset.

  2. Write your comment. To notify a teammate, type @ and the start of their name, then pick them from the list.

  3. Press Enter to post it (Shift+Enter starts a new line, Esc cancels). A pin with your avatar marks the spot, and the thread opens.

  4. Close the thread when you are done. Select its pin any time to open it again, read the replies and add your own.

  5. Select Comments at the top of the board to list every open thread in the session.

Result

The comment is pinned to the asset and moves with it when the asset moves on the board. Everyone you mentioned gets a notification in their inbox, with a link to the session or file it is on, and by email or Slack if they have turned those on.

Comment on a file in the viewer

Open any file full-size, from a session or from the Asset Library. At the foot of the details panel on the left, under Comments, type in Add a comment… and press Enter. These comments belong to the file, so they are there wherever the file is opened, and @mentions work the same way.

Work with a thread

Reply

Open the thread and type in Reply…. Mentions in a reply notify the people you name.

React

Select Add reaction on a comment to answer with an emoji instead of a reply.

Resolve

Select Resolve thread (the check mark) once the feedback is dealt with. Resolved threads leave the board and the list. To see them again, open the filter menu in Comments and turn on Show resolved threads; select Reopen thread on one to bring it back.

Link, move or delete

Open Comment actions (the three dots) for Copy link, which copies a link that opens the thread, Unpin from asset, which leaves the comment where it is when the asset moves, and Delete comment. Drag a pin onto another asset to pin it there, or onto an empty part of the board to unpin it.

Production tips

  • Pin to the asset, not the board. A comment pinned to an asset travels with it as the board is rearranged, and hovering the pin outlines what it is about, so feedback never ends up pointing at the wrong shot.
  • Mention the owner. A comment nobody is mentioned in notifies nobody. Name the artist who made the asset, or the person who has to approve it.
  • Resolve as you go. Resolving a thread once the change is made turns the board into a to-do list: open pins are what is left.
  • Review in rounds. In Comments, search the threads, turn on Show only mine to see only the threads you have commented in, and sort by newest or oldest activity to work through a review from start to finish.
  • Hide comments to present. Press Shift+C to hide every pin (and vote stamp) for a clean board, and press it again to bring them back.

If something goes wrong

  • A teammate is not offered when you type @. They are not a member of this workspace. Ask an admin to invite them first.
  • A teammate did not get notified. Only the people you @mention are notified, and only when their name is picked from the list. Check their inbox and their notification preferences (see Catch up with your inbox).
  • There is no Add comment or Comments button. Board comments are in the board view of a session. Switch to the board, or use the Comments section of the viewer's details panel for a single file.
  • A comment is missing. It may have been resolved: turn on Show resolved threads in the filter menu in Comments. If all pins are gone, comments are hidden; press Shift+C to show them.
