Make app store screenshots and a preview trailer

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Turn captures from your game into a captioned set of app store screenshots in every size the stores ask for, then cut a short preview trailer from the same footage and art. This is the store page a player sees before installing.

What you'll make

Screenshots. A set of five to eight screenshots, each one a real capture from the game with a short headline above it, in the portrait phone size and the tablet size, exported as PNG or JPEG.

Preview trailer. One vertical video of 15 to 30 seconds built from gameplay clips, with titles and music, exported as MP4. On the App Store it runs as the app preview; on Google Play it goes up as the promo video.

App Store Connect and Google Play Console list the exact pixel sizes, counts and file rules they accept, and they change them from time to time. Check both before you export.

Before you start

  • Capture the screens and the gameplay footage in the game itself, at the device's native resolution and without debug overlays. Both stores expect screenshots and previews to show the game as players will see it, so Layer captions and frames your captures rather than inventing gameplay.
  • Write the headlines first: one benefit per screenshot, a few words each, in the order a player should read them.
  • Captions, reframes and video runs cost Creative Units; the cost depends on the model and the size. See Creative Units.

Caption each screenshot

This uses the prompt edit bar under the viewer; Edit an image with a prompt covers it in detail.

  1. In a session, press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows), choose Add asset…, pick a capture and click Select 1 asset. Hover it on the board and click View.

  2. In the edit bar under the image, describe the caption panel and quote the headline exactly, then name what must not change: Add a solid deep-navy caption panel across the top fifth with the headline "BUILD YOUR FROZEN KEEP" in large bold white capitals. Keep the fortress, the villagers and the HUD exactly as they are.

  3. Click Edit image. The viewer stays open and the captioned version joins the strip beside the capture.

  4. Read the headline letter by letter. If a word comes back wrong, fix only the text with Edit text in an image rather than running the caption again.

  5. Repeat for each capture, with the same panel description so the set matches.

Fit each store size

Make the phone set first, then reframe each captioned screenshot to the tablet shape. See Reframe an image to a new aspect ratio.

  1. With the captioned screenshot on the stage, click Reframe image in the Actions panel.

  2. Click More and choose the tablet shape, 3:4.

  3. Click Reframe. The scene is extended at the sides and the tablet version joins the same strip.

  4. Check the extended edges. They are painted, not captured, so keep the game's interface and anything a player would tap inside the original area.

Cut the preview trailer

Start from captured gameplay clips, the way the screenshots start from captures.

  1. Bring the clips into the session with Add asset…, as for the screenshots.

  2. If a clip is landscape, open it and run Reframe video to make it vertical. If it is soft, run Upscale video.

  3. Open the first clip and choose Open in video timeline. Add the other clips, trim each one to its best few seconds, and put a title over the opening and an end card with the game's name.

  4. Add a track under the cut: Create music makes one to length, or run Add music to video on the finished cut.

  5. Render the timeline and watch it end to end before you export it.

Shots generated with Create a video, such as a key art that comes to life, suit a Google Play promo video or an ad. Keep the App Store preview to footage captured from the game.

Hand it off

Screenshots

Select the set on the board and use Download as.... Choose PNG or JPEG, set the width and height each store asks for, and name the files in reading order with the File name template so they upload in the right sequence.

Trailer

Open the rendered video and use Download as... with MP4, at the frame rate you captured. Upload it in App Store Connect as the app preview; for Google Play, publish it on YouTube and add the link to the store listing.

Scale it up

  • Localize the set. Run Translate text in image on each captioned screenshot for every store language instead of captioning each market from scratch.
  • Reuse the caption style. Save the panel description you settled on, or build it into a workflow with a Prompt Template node so every screenshot gets the same panel with its own headline. See Build prompts from a template in a workflow.
  • Review as a set. Look at the screenshots side by side at the size a store shows them in search results, where only the first two or three are visible. Admins can add Output Scoring rules in the workspace's AI controls to check every result automatically.

If something goes wrong

  • The headline is misspelled. Quote it exactly in the prompt, keep it short, and fix single words with Edit text in an image.
  • The gameplay under the caption changed. The edit re-rendered more than the panel. Run it again from the capture, and list what must stay in the prompt: the HUD, the characters, the buildings.
  • The tablet version shows invented interface. The reframe painted buttons or counters into the added area. Say no interface in the extended area in the reframe's description box, or capture the screen on a tablet instead.
  • A store rejects the upload. Check its current size, count and file rules, and export again at those exact pixels.
