Connecting Miro to Layer

Connect your Miro boards to Layer so you can pull assets into a session and push your work back to the board.

The Miro connector links your Miro boards to Layer, so your team's reference material and finished assets can move between the two without manual exporting and uploading. Connect it once at the workspace level, then scope individual projects to a specific board.

How it works

The Miro connector works at two levels:

  • Workspace level: Add the Miro connector to your Layer workspace once. This authorizes Layer to talk to your team's Miro account.

  • Project level: Within a project, scope the connection to a specific Miro board. This tells Layer which board that project's sessions should pull from and push to.

Connecting the Miro connector to your workspace

  1. Go to Workspace Settings and open the Connectors tab.

  2. Find Miro in the list of connectors and select Connect.

  3. Log in to Miro and authorize Layer to access your boards.

  4. Once authorized, Miro appears as a connected integration on your workspace.

Scoping a project to a Miro board

With the connector active on your workspace, you can now link a specific project to a specific board:

  1. Open the project you want to connect.

  2. Go to the project's detail and find the Connectors section.

  3. Click to add a new connector to the project and select Miro.

  4. Select the Miro board you want to link to this project.

  5. Confirm. The project is now scoped to that board.

💡 Each project can be scoped to one board at a time. If you need to work with a different board, you can change the linked board in project settings at any point.

Pulling and pushing assets in a session

Once a project is scoped to a board, any session inside that project can move assets to and from it:

Action

What it does

Pull from board

Brings assets from the linked Miro board into your current session, ready to use as references or starting points.

Push to board

Sends assets from your session back to the linked Miro board, so the rest of your team can see them without leaving Miro.

  1. Open a session inside a project that's scoped to a board.

  2. Right click anywhere on the canvas and select Import from Miro to bring items from the board into the session, or right click on any generated asset to Export to Miro to send them to the board.

  3. Imported assets appear in your session ready to use. Exported assets appear on the Miro board as new items.

FAQ

Can I link more than one board to a project?

No, each project can be scoped to a single board at a time. You can change which board it's linked to from project settings whenever you need to.

Do I need to reconnect Miro for every project?

No. The connector is authorized once at the workspace level. Scoping a project to a board is a separate, lightweight step that doesn't require reauthorizing.

What happens to assets already on the board when I push new ones?

Exporting from a session adds new items to the board. It doesn't overwrite or remove anything that's already there.

Who can connect or change the Miro integration?

Connecting the integration at the workspace level requires workspace admin access. Scoping a project to a board can be done by anyone with edit access to that project.
