Tools in Layer
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Every tool in Layer and the job it does, so you can start from what you want to make or change and pick the tool that does it.
Pick the tool for the job
Start from the job, not the model. Each tool does one thing, such as Create tile or Remove image background, and its form asks only for what that job needs. Every tool opens on a default model chosen for the job, and its model picker lists only the models that can do it, so for most work you pick the tool, describe what you want and run it.
- Making something new: open a tool under Generators.
- Changing a file you already have: select it and open one of the editors for its type. The file's menu and the viewer offer the same edits on the file in hand.
- A job with several steps, or one you can't name a tool for: describe it to the agent, which picks the tools and models for you. See Work with the Layer agent.
- The same steps over and over: save them as a workflow. See Find and run a workflow.
When the model matters
Change the model when the default can't give you something specific: a look one model is known for, a capability such as transparency or a seed, a longer clip, a higher resolution or a lower cost per run. Switch it from the model picker at the top of the tool's form and run the same prompt again to compare. Choose a model shows how to compare models side by side, and the Prompting guides cover how to prompt each one.
Where to find the tools
On Home, the Tools under the prompt box open a new session on the tool. In a session, the side panel lists the tools beside the agent; search them by name or by the job ("tileable", "cutout", "lip sync"), or select See all tools to browse every tool by section. The sections below follow that window: Generators, the editors for each type of file, Training and Workflows.
Some tools hand the job to the agent with the brief already written: the agent asks for the file and the choices it needs, then runs the right tools. They are marked (with the agent) below.
Generators
Create image
Stills from a prompt: concept art, key art, characters, sprites, icons and backgrounds. The place to start for any new image. See Create images.
