With Select Video Frame, you can take any video file - whether itโs from your computer or generated in Layer - and extract a single frame to use as a reference image.
This works anywhere you would normally upload a reference image in Layer, including:
2D reference image
3D reference image
Video first/last frame reference
Prompt edit reference image
Refinement image
Simply drag and drop the video file into the reference file drop zone. The frame you select will appear in your Recent Files after forging.
How it Works
Anywhere you can upload a reference image, you can now drop in a video file and select a frame from it.
The video will open in a frame selector.
Scrub or step through the video to find the exact frame you want.
Confirm your selection. The chosen frame is uploaded as an image and ready to use as a reference.

Best For Creating Connected Videos
While you can select a frame from any video, this feature is especially powerful for creating longer, connected video scenes.
When you generate a video, you can now:
Download or keep your generated video.
Use Select Video Frame to pick the last frame of that video.
Set that frame as the first frame reference for your next video generation.
This gives the AI a strong starting point for the new clip, helping maintain visual continuity and letting you build longer scenes with smoother transitions.
Tips
Works with both local and Layer-generated videos.
Drag and drop your video file directly into the reference file drop zone.
Frame selection is precise - use the scrub bar to find the exact moment.
Your extracted frame will appear in Recent Files after forging, making it quick to reuse.
